Hands down the best sushi in town. The Exchange Roll is incredible! I've have never had a roll that wasn't made to perfection. On top of the great food, the customer service is phenomenal...Ask for Morgan, he is great! Can't wait for the outdoor expansion and football season. I would highly recommend Locals Bar to anyone.

For sushi in Mount Pleasant, there isn't a better option than Locals Bar. Their ingredients seems to be fresh and their chefs use a lot of creativity with the rolls. The spicy tuna, California and veggie rolls are great. I do like the fact that it's a sushi / sports bar and a little more casual than most other sushi places. The only issue I had was with the knowledge of the bartender that waited on us. But overall, was a pretty good experience and I'll definitely be back.

Where else can you get sushi at 11pm at night? The staff here is amazing and friendly. The food is wonderful, and who can beat half-price sushi on Monday nights? Great little find in Mount Pleasant!

Always a great time, the food is delicious and service is on point. The menu and beer selection is diverse and I love that, anyone can find something they like. Sushi is what I go there for most times. Its a great place to meet up with friends and just an overall chill spot to hangout, can't wait for the outside patio to be finished.

As seems to be the general consensus of the reviews, the service is terrible. I understand sushi takes awhile to make; however, I ordered a salad and the three other people I was with had almost finished their sushi before my salad even arrived. Everyone enjoyed the food around the table once we got it, but we even had issues when it came time for the bill. It was pretty packed for being a Tuesday night, so I'm assuming most people go there knowing it's going to be a wait. In the meantime, I suggest either the banana bread beer or the alcoholic rootbeer.

Absolutely delicious sushi! My sister was right when she said that Locals has the best sushi in town! We tried several rolls, and they were all divine. They were very busy with trivia, but the service was good. They had a nice variety of drink options. I highly recommend this spot!

I honestly can't give this place more than 3 stars. Will we be back- yes, I'm sure. The sushi is decent and the pours are heavy. Locals is a fun, neighborhood bar that happens to also serve sushi. A lot of it. That is the best way I can describe this place. This is a fun place to hang out, Mondays are awesome. Definitely get there early and be prepared to wait. I just haven't ever found myself leaving this place and thinking to myself, "Man, I can't wait to come back here!" That hasn't happened yet.

I loved this place! We have been wanting to come here literally since we moved to Charleston but had always heard it's not good for kids, blah blah blah. Well first, that's not true if you're going early in the day (like right around 4:30? totally normal in there). Service? Lovely! I loved our server, super friendly. Sushi! I loved, the big winner was the $1 nigiri special that was going on. Shoutout to Locals on that one. Beer list was absolutely solid, with Stone and Bell's making appearances. Overall, a wonderful spot and I definitely can't wait to go back!

I've lived in Charleston a little over 2 months and I've been to Locals four times. This alone should indicate to you how awesome this place is! First off, I am incredibly impressed and dumbfounded that no one else has thought of serving fun sushi at a sports bar - this concept is brilliant and you can be sure that I will literally be moving into Locals during football season to watch all the games. As it stands now, it's been a "go-to" during March Madness and now the NBA finals. Love the plethora of TVs scattered around the bar, without them being intrusive. If you don't like loud places, this is not the restaurant/bar for you - they pump the music up LOUD and the music is always, always incredible. Last night, it was old school rap and hip-hop from the 90s and early 2000s. SO GOOD. Their craft draft beer list is also phenomenal and includes both local brews and imports. I tend to always order my favorite - Bells 2-Hearted. They also serve Coast Kolsch, which is a perfect summer beer! Locals also has a great outdoor space in the back and front, which is becoming more and more popular as the weather warms up. Great, casual vibe to the outdoor areas as well, and seem like fun if you're not there to watch the games. This place is ALWAYS jamming with mostly 20 and 30-somethings, but I see a solid mix of others as well, since it is a local restaurant with a good sushi reputation. I've also only been on Monday nights, which happen to be 1/2 price sushi night. No, they don't discount it because they need to get rid of bad sushi - this place turns over their volume very very quickly because they have specials every evening and they're ALWAYS crowded. I've eaten the 1/2 price sushi four times and never have I felt sick - the sushi is fresh and delicious. The rolls are incredibly over-stuffed and generous and creative and the sushi chefs will modify the rolls for you too - not a fan of cream cheese? No problem - they'll adjust accordingly, so don't be shy! Always a winner, Locals - you can guarantee I'll be back again soon!

Walking into this place, you might be suspicious of claims that is has great sushi. It doesn't look like your typical sushi place. But don't back up or run for the door, the rumors are true! You can get good sushi in a bar. Well, here at least. My boyfriend and I were surprised to find they used jalapeño - but in my experience it was a good choice- it added zing and flair to a usually bland veggie roll. And as a vegetarian I always give extra points to a place that can jazz up a typical vegetarian dish. But don't go in expecting a nice dinner date- this is a sports bar with drinks and TVs. It's a great casual place to catch a game with some unusual football munchies. I like that they are doing something a little different, but I guess if you want strictly one or the other it might make you cranky. Great for those who want something out of the ordinary!

After taking a suggestion from a well-known and respected Yelper, you know who you are! Laura and I stopped by Local's for some dinner. The outside gives little to NO inclination that this is a sushi place; let alone pumping out Mt. Pleasants BEST sushi. Inside, on the menu, a whole other story! These guys are rolling some pretty amazing rolls eclectic to the region. They also serve up some pretty killer tempura. They don't over coat the food with heavy batter. It's light. Airy, and crispy. Not overly greasy either. We had the veggie tempura and dam! Was it good. - oh, you must, must, must! Ask for the house made spicy pazole sauce. Our waiter told us it was an accident when combining sauces, but it sure does taste like a beautiful accident to me. I also suggest the house made Sangria. It's the perfect refresher anytime, but especially during the many hot Charleston days. Oh! Check out the daily specials board and become very, very, VERY intimate with it. Because you will want to take advantage of every single special they have. If your local. Or not. Local's is a great place to be. I will be bringing every single visitor I know to this joint.

Locals Bar! What can you really say? Kinda divey looking place, not run down, but more of a local bar atmosphere. They are not trying to be anything except what they are. Awesome Sushi, good beer & friendly service. Seriously, if you live in the area and want a change from typical bar food but still want a come as you are atmosphere, this place is awesome. Side note, the sushi is not traditional. It is fun, exciting, different & full of flavor

I agree with this Ben guy. I have no idea what's going on in this hostess's head, but it's obviously not working efficiently. It took my group of 4 over 2 hours to get a seat. She told us it'd be an hour wait... So we sat on the patio instead of standing around, she came out and told us to leave because they were planning on opening outdoor seating. Guess what: She didn't. We ended up going back inside and saw there were three giant tables open for a half hour until we FINALLY got a seat!! What the hell!??

Cool neighborhood bar, good sushi, and crappy service. Yet I'm still giving it a three. We went on a Sunday and Locals was slammed. There were two servers, which was 99% of the problem. Our server was super not friendly or helpful, but the other one (who knew one of my friends) was awesome and took care of us quite frequently...even though it wasn't her table. Everyone but me ordered drinks (I'm doing my best to stick to that whole "no drinking on school nights" rule), and the drinks took a hot minute to arrive. I ordered an edamame appetizer and it never arrived. We flagged down our server and she informed me that I never ordered any edamame. Rule #1: The one sober person at the dinner table usually knows that they ordered. Just saying. Edamame arrived. It was the standard. My chicken stir fry with crack (white sauce) was absolutely delicious. It's also a huge portion, so I wound up with leftovers. All of the sushi at the table looked really tasty as well. Everything about the meal was above and beyond solid. Yes, our server sucked, but I am definitely willing to go back (and request to not sit in her section) to try half-off sushi Mondays. All and all, it was a lackluster experience with good food and I'm willing to give them another shot.

I went to try Locals Bar based on reviews I saw on Yelp. I brought my family there on buy one get one half off Sushi night (Thursdays) The sushi was awesome. It def did not look like a sushi place on the outside (looked like a local bar- (har har)) They had quite the selection. We ordered a few rounds of sushi, each different and each super yummy. They did have a live band that evening- starting about an hour after we sat down, which was set up right next to our table. We asked to be moved and there was no hesitation by the waitstaff. We were set up right next to one of the sushi bars, which was nice because we can see the sushi being made and watch the work of art that it is. I will certainly be back and recommend it to anyone in the area looking for affordable and delicious sushi.

Go for half price sushi on Monday nights... Not great service and you will have to fight for attention but the quality of sushi and price cuts win! Go for it!

6:44 pm...Just arrived. More to follow Holy cow. This place is a hidden gem. The atmosphere, drinks, and the Sushi. Don't leave Mt. Pleasant without visit this place.

If you're ever in Mt. P and get a hankering for some good sushi, Locals is the place to go. When you walk in, your first impression will be sports bar. Well, you will be correct, but you are also in the home of some bomb-ass sushi! You can spend all afternoon perusing their sushi menu, which I almost did, or go with what is proven to be delicious from experience (I don't doubt that everything is great). In agreement with some friends recommendations, I also have to advise you to try the Locals Lovers roll. There is too much to remember what all is in it, but I do remember that it is topped with some filet and a dab of sriracha. Needless to say, it's one of my favorite rolls. If I lived in Mt. P, I'd go a lot more frequently, but I always know where to go for good sushi, good drinks, and a good time. The staff and crowd are always great and all about promoting a good time.

Locals is having a bit of an identity crisis. They are definitely a sports bar but, they are definitely a sushi bar too. The line is not blurred. They are both of these things together. Which makes it pretty awesome. I have been to the bar on off nights to stop in for a drink or meet somebody. Average bar scene (I went on a couple rather of quiet nights) for a "locals" bar... haha get it? Nevermind... Do you want to know what night they are particularly busy? You got it right... Monday! Wait... Monday? Yes Monday! That is half price menu night! What is half price menu night you ask? Why would you ask such a stupid question. It means the menu prices are half of what they normally are! As a disclaimer for Local's, there are a very small amount of items that are not half price i.e. Locals Tower, Lobster for Two, etc... It makes sense as these particular items are rather pricey. I have attended Half Price Mondays before at Locals so I knew what to expect heading there last night. Here is what you need to know to be prepared: -It is busy! Not in the way that you are never getting a table to eat, but sometimes there is a wait. -Unless I am mistaken, they don't take reservations although I am sure if you are trying to come in with a large crowd they would like to know ahead of time. -I recommend going to really early dinner or really late dinner to avoid the majority of waiting. -Whether you wait for a table or not, you will wait for food. Sushi takes time people and it is all made to order. -Plan to make a night of it. Arrive at your table and order a couple apps right away, sit back and have drinks, don't think about when your food will arrive. If you head in on a Monday for Half Price and expect any other experience, you will be disappointed. We had a table of three last night and we all had a blast. We started with edamame, fried shrimp dumplings, and tuna tataki. All great but my favorite was the tuna. The sauce was light and cucumbers added were a plus. For sushi rolls, we had fried chicken (I know it isn't really sushi but, it tastes delicious... don't judge me), spicy tuna, Monster, Local Lovers, Tuna Lovers, and one other I can't remember the name of. My favorite was the Monster roll. Either way, there are pages and pages to choose from. You wont be disappointed. And with half price on everything, how could you be. It gives you an opportunity to try things you normally would not have because you were afraid you wouldn't enjoy it. When specialty rolls are 4-7 bucks, who cares? I had a great time. Yes, it was slow, but it was their busiest night of the week and that is what I expected. The service was still great and that made it a great experience. If you follow the guidelines listed here, you will do so as well.

  • Dan O.

I've enjoyed most of the rolls I've had here. If you go on half price night then the tiny pieces of sushi they put in the rolls are forgivable, but otherwise paying $12 for a roll with a teeny tiny piece of fish is not cool.

I can't get enough of this place! Make the drive over from JI once a week for Monday nights but I would come any day! Great staff, awesome sushi and sake and sports too! You can't ask for anything better!

Not very friendly to new customers . I guess you need to be one of "their" locals. Sushi is good-bartender unfriendly.

Let me preface this by saying upfront - the only thing awesome here is the sushi. That is all I have had there food wise, so that is all I can review. Having said that - I live in Summerville, and I will drive to Mt. Pleasant to get to Locals for sushi. 30-45 min drive for sushi. it is that delicious. The bar itself, well, its the typical neighborhood dive, typish bar. Lots of TVs to watch games. The beer selection is not what I would say is diverse. The usual - Bud, Miller, Pabst, etc. a few on tap - Shock top, few seasonal, etc. Servers there are always nice and very attentive. There is a small separate sushi counter where you can sit and order/eat sushi. Or you can sit anywhere else in the bar and order it. Sometimes they have a guy there singing. I have heard that they also have comedy night and things of that nature. But lets get back to the real reason for being there -- THE SUSHI - We usually have a bowl of edamame, one or two rolls to share and that is more than enough to fill up 2 people. Last visit there we had the tuna tatki. OMG !!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS. and of course - one of the two competition rolls- there is a reason that these rolls have won 2 - YES 2 - Sushi competitions.. They are both delicious yumminess. Monster and volcano rolls are also insanely good. They have weekly specials there like buy one roll get another for free (usually Monday nights), or buy one get one half off (usually Thursday nights). Reviewing the bar- its a 3 but with the to die for sushi it offers, I had to bump it up to a 4.

Love the sushi! Great bartenders as well.

Definitely would call this place "different" when it comes to the concept. It's a bar for locals, hence the name, and a sushi bar. Hmmmm. In any event, have an open mind, since this is the best sushi I've had since, well, since I've been in Mount Pleasant. It's fresh and legit, and I hear they have half price sushi on Monday nights. They also make their own infused vodkas, so I tried the Cucumber Vodka. Flavor was pronounced and mixed with soda water, it made me feel like I was getting my daily allowance of vegetables in. Definitely give this place a chance if you need a sushi fix. They won't disappoint.

I had the "low carb" tuna roll and it was AWESOME! I will definitely be going back. My boyfriend had the hibachi chicken and he said it was great. I will definitely be returning!

Sushi is always good, Local Lovers is definitely the best! They always have a really good mixed drink to try, the Tataki sampler is ridiculously good. Definitely will be a regular

Imagine this: Sunday night, Olympics are on, people are betting on snowboarding, you're having a drink. Normal, right? Now add to that a menu that consists of almost all sushi. Turns out the sushi is good, really good! Totally laid back, usually I would be peeved it took a while for our food to come, and here I don't mind. I have nowhere to be. I'm having a good time. $28 for three rolls. Enough for two. I'd do it again.

  • Krista P.

I love this place because it's a great spot off the beaten path, close to home, with great bartenders and the best sushi in town. WINNING AGAIN! Add the fact that the core of their humongous menu is sushi, hibachi, other Japanese fare with a handful of random late-night munchies, I'm pretty much all in. While I wouldn't call Locals a sushi bar, more a fun bar with sushi, I must convey, that all the sushi and food for that matter is excellent at decent price for a huge portion. My long time go to favorite is the locals tower, which is literally a tower built from the bottom up with rice, crab, avocado, cucumber, fresh raw tuna, three kinds of fish row and drizzled with fancy sauces. My favorite roll is the mango (award winner), my comfort food is the steak teriyaki bowl with brown rice, and my cardinal locals sin snack is the corndog basket. Locals identity has always marched to the beat of its own drum, which is part of the appeal for me. Sushi, meets sports bar, meets live music & occasional comedy venue, meets cheers. Sushi-sports-music-cheers-funny-bar you say? I say, BRING IT! Locals Bar has been my favorite watering hole since it opened, which ironically was my favorite coffee shop once upon a time, long loooooong ago. I gave up coffee and found a new habit, Locals sushi! If you haven't tried Locals and you're a sushi fan, you're missing out!

unexpected! after a day doing the touristy thing in Charleston looking for something different. That is exactly what we got! Awesome beer/drink selection with fresh sushi and fantastic friendly service! Highly recommend the place! Extremely attentive and very comfortable. Krista and Tex behind the bar were on point! If you are in the area highly recommend...if they were local to us in Ellicott City you would see us every Monday! Well done!

Favorite place for Mondays in MP!! Excellent sushi and it's half off on Mondays!!! Yes, you have to wait awhile and it's almost always packed but that's a statement about the quality of the food and service. Bartenders are really cool and helpful. The recent renovations are an improvement and added some seating without getting swanky or pretentious. Don't miss it!

  • Fiona D.

Tues night is great for 1/2 price drinks & live music.. Always a busy bar... Kinda divey but with great sushi

    (4)
  • Jennie S.

Love that this is a casual sushi place that really delivers on making delicious sushi. And on Mondays the rolls are half off. Can't beat that! Service is pretty good too. My only complaint is that seating is pretty limited so when they're busy you either wait a while for a table or get smushed in at a bar table/community table with strangers. Which I can get down with if it means I can eat my sushi sooner rather than later. Bottom line it's a great place to grab sushi in Mt. Pleasant. Will come here again and again.

  • Alexa T.

The sushi was excellent! I sat at the sushi bar and watched my dinner appear out of thin air. The asparagus bites featured lightly steamed asparagus wrapped in rare filet mignon in a delicious sauce. The competition, tango and ninja rolls were made with high quality, freshly prepared ingredients. I would go back on a nightly basis until I have tried everything on the menu.

  • Krista R.

What an amazing sushi bar! Here in Charleston we are spoiled by the abundance of local, fresh seafood available to us so sushi is a great way to utilize this. Locals not only had an amazing menu but to top it off great bar specials most nights of the week. Live bands on the weekends and for special events make for a fun night! And customer service is always a top priority for the locals crew. Love me some locals!!

    (5)
  • Jen H.

Locals is exactly what the name says - a bar that is mainly filled with locals. And that makes it a bit of a gem, especially after spending a lot of time in the more touristy areas like IOP, Sullivans, and Shem Creek. The place itself is really small, but cozy in its own right. Locals appears to be a sports bar when you enter, but its menu mainly consists of sushi. And really, really good sushi at that. The monster roll is probably the best roll I've ever had, anywhere. The staff and owners are all really good folks - super friendly and on top of it. All in all, a great little place to go. Oh, and on Monday's - half off the delicious sushi! You can't beat that! But be fair warned, the secrets out and it gets busy, so try to arrive pretty early.

Try the Tina's Fried Oreos! The atmosphere is casual and the employees are always very nice. All of the sushi is made fresh to order and taste out of this world!

Best sushi I've found in the Charleston area. Cool environment and can't beat half price rolls.

Best sushi in town! Monday is 50% off sushi, and Thursday is B1G1 50% off. Expect a wait if you come on Monday night.

  • Filipe T.

I came here on a Monday and had a Palmetto Espresso Porter which was great. However, it was the only Craft beer available on Tap, the other ones were Bud Light, Natty Light, and some better chain beers. I love the atmosphere of a Sports Bar and the fact that they serve Sushi to go along with it. I did not know at the time, but they have a Monday special where every food you order is half priced (AMAZING!). I got a Craft Beer, a Specialty Roll (Local Fan Roll) and Edamame and my bill was $15... Can't BEAT that. The sushi was great and I love the invention.

Great food and really fun! After a long day and heavy eating at the Taste of Charleston, we were craving a lighter dinner, so sushi fit the bill. We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a go. The food was great. I had a Rainbow roll $11, my brother had the sunkist roll $10 any my mom had the chicken teriyaki (under $10). All three were excellent, really fresh. The sunkist was the better of the two rolls. As other reviews have said, this is really a bar with limited seating. They have a good selection of craft beers and friendly service. The place seemed really clean, particularly for a bar. I know sushi in a bar seems odd, but I think you can trust the food. The atmosphere is casual and fun. There is a jukebox playing music. I think this is primarily a locals bar (no pun intended with the name). We met some friendly people who asked how we found the place and gave us other great tips. I would definitely recommend this place both for the food and to hang out. Just keep in mind what this place is, i.e., bar first, and have fun!

  • Mac M.

It's location is odd and not what I was expecting. It's a bar that serves sushi. The sushi is some of my favorite in all of Charleston and the have a large selection of cocktails and beers (it's a bar after all). Definitely will go back.

  • Eddie S.

Great local spot that is located in a strip mall that can be a little hard to find if you dont know area. But great local owners, bartenders but what will shock you is best sushi in Charleston. Actually won blind tasting against all the sushi restaruants last year. Give it a shot.

I've drove past this place many times & never noticed it. Thanks YELP for helping me find Locals! The best way I can describe it is as a dive bar that specializes in sushi. They have all the regular rolls- spicy tuna, Philly, California... Then there's the speciality rolls, this is where flavor magic happens. Mango, Cilantro, Masago, OH MY! They don't have a kids menu, but will make suggestions, tempura chicken fingers? Delicious! We went on a weekend for dinner & they were very busy with only 2 servers, & 2 sushi chefs. It took an extremely long time to get our food. The servers were apologetic & super nice. The sushi chefs sent an extra roll to our table as well. We were having fun playing the Ms. Pac-Man machine anyways, so the wait wasn't a big deal.

It's hidden location in a strip mall behind Liberty Tap Room in the Publix shopping center complex off Anna Knapp Rd doesnt bode well for the business but they always seem to have a decent crowd....the sushi is really quite delicious. I have tried multiple items on their menu and have enjoyed them all. I would highly recommend the Lobster Dinner for 2...delicious. The staff is always nice and friendly and there often is live entertainment or a dj. The one knock I have on the place is that if you stay for more than a couple hours you WILL smell like fish...and that smell does not even wash out very well.

  • Eddy D.

This place has amazing sushi, but don't expect the best service. Our server came to the table maybe twice. Someone else even had to get our check for us. Turns out our server spent most of his time chatting with his buddies at the bar. On that note, I'd still go again because as bad as the service was, the sushi still made up for it.

I was disappointed with my experience at Locals, even though my expectation was pretty low since it's a "sports bar". I will not return. Just to be clear, it is literally a sports bar (dimly lit, lots of TVs, casual atmosphere) with a sushi bar tucked in the corner. First of all, this restaurant does not serve iced tea, *in Mount Pleasant, SC*... seriously? Our primary server had a bad attitude and made snide comments regarding how I was eating my sushi rolls. The whole point of a "locals bar" is that you go in and the staff is friendly, or at least not actively rude. We also had to wait a long time for water refills, twice. We sat at the sushi bar, and ordered some rolls and chicken wings. The wings were run from the kitchen, and put on the sushi bar to be served -- where, bizarrely, they sat waiting for service for at least 5 minutes, until somebody realized they were ours and handed them to us, just six feet away. Why would the kitchen runner not bring them straight to us? Why add a step while they "die in the window"? The sushi rolls were entirely too large and should have been about half the size. 12 segments is too many to eat comfortably. The fish seemed fresh enough to be edible but not nearly as fresh as it should be, less fresh than even from the grocery store. The spring rolls were OK, but they were too large, and long strips of carrot were awkward to eat. Please visit Basil or Taste of Thai to see how spring rolls should be done. Giving credit where it's due, the sushi chefs seemed to work very hard at cranking out rolls as fast as they could. The chicken wings were pretty good. That's about the only positive thing I can say here.

First experience at this sushi bar was better than I thought it would be. The half off sushi Monday night brought in a big crowd and the campionship game helped too. The service was not bad and food was excellent. I expected the service to be slow and the food to take long going in so the experience wasn't dissapointing. Any establishment that is that packed with people all ordering the same thing is going to take a little longer to prepare it. I ordered all specialty rolls and the did not dissapoint at all. I even ordered a dessert that was tempura crab with honey drizzle on top of vanilla ice cream. I know this does not sound very good at all! I was once again suprised that the flavors actually worked out. You don't really taste the crab but the the savory tempura batter worked well with the sweet of the ice cream and honey. I will be going back to have more sushi. They have a great variety of choices.

  • Clay L.

I have to say, this is one of the more unique sushi experiences I have had. Its really not everyday you have a sushi sports bar that has variety of menu items from fried cheese sticks to hibachi style food as well. Locals has a decent selection of beers and some great specials. Monday if half-price, Tuesday is Trivia, and Thursday is buy one get one half off on sushi rolls. Their daily happy hour is 1$ off draft beer and 1$ Nigiri pieces. Working across 17 with this place is becoming dangerous!

Been meaning to update this from 4 to 5 stars for a long time now. Simply because I love this place, the people who work here, the food, and it's become homey for me. Everyone here just makes you feel welcomed and so comfortable.

I highly recommend going to Locals if you: 1) Are a Mt. Pleasant native looking for a watering hole 2) In any way a football fan 3) Enjoy cheap, good sushi My wife and I went to Locals twice over the holidays, both times to watch football. The bar has total coverage over NFL games, and attracts a pretty good crowd of Charleston transplants that are rooting for their various home teams. In particular, there was a group of about fifteen New England fans that were present both times I visited. If you're a Pats fan, you'll be in good company. The bar itself is unremarkable - it's in the middle of a small shopping strip off of Johnnie Dodds. There's an outdoor area (for smoking, it seems), and a somewhat spacious interior. I was a bit put off at first by a sushi-serving sports bar, but the concept works perfectly. The sushi is relatively cheap, but of good quality. There are tons of gigantic Amera-sushi (I saw a couple rolls go out that were covered in meat, and a couple more that were tempura-fried), so you can easily split a few rolls between friends and get full. I sat by the sushi bar my second time around, and I can attest that the fish was fresh. The bar staff is incredibly friendly. I felt that - even for Charleston, a super-friendly town - the staff here went out of their way to check in with me and my wife, strike up conversation, and offer specific recommendations on food, beer, and cocktails. They clearly know the cohort of football regulars that come in as well (in general this feels like a neighborhood bar-type place). I really can't think of any downsides to this place. If you aren't a football fan and get caught in here on a Sunday you might be a bit annoyed - but otherwise I'd definitely recommend stopping by.

Interesting combo of sports bar and sushi restaurant, but it works. It's a lighter meal than your typical sports bar food, so it probably appeals to more people. I wish we had one when I was in college. I would go here to watch sports and just hang out. I've only been once (we're from Wilmington) but I would hope they would have live music too, small bands only.

There really isn't much more I can say about Locals, that no one else has, but dude. Amazing sushi. Just amazing. Nineties alternative rock. And not just A-sides, deep cuts. I just heard a non-album version of "Welcome to Paradise" by Green Day. Even the album version is a deep cut, but a demo version? Come on. The tempura chicken? Ridiculous. The $1 nigiri during Happy Hour, which, by the way, is EVERY FREAKING DAY?!? EVEN BETTER! OH, AND THEY HAVE A FANTASTIC BEER SELECTION! WHY AREN'T YOU HERE??!?

I wish I could give this place 5 stars! The sushi is by far the best I've had in Charleston so far. Okay so I've been here three times. First time the service was downright terrible. Second time we didn't really bother to wait and just left. The sushi however was delicious enough for us to go back(no joke). Therfore I'll write this review according to my last visit. Service was slightly better, you kinda just walk in and sit where you like. Still think they should have a hostess or something. The miso soup is by far my fav. They are not stingy on the tofu and it's overall worth the price. The sushi is down right delicious. You can't wrong with this place. (aside from the wait time) Had tuna lovers and Alaskan this time which was really good. Deff recommend the Alaskan. The fish tasted great and the place itself is nice. It has a decent amount of tvs everywhere which my bf rather enjoyed since he likes to watch football. The waiter was attentive and came by to check on us regularly. The sushi selections are so good we still haven't had a chance to try desert. Only downside as mentioned before is the service. It's very inconsistent. I would recommend going when it isn't too busy. If you do happen to go during rush time, then expect to be waiting a bit. The food is deff worth the wait in my opinion, even though the service isn't great at times. We'll go back whenever we're in the area though. This has become our sushi spot when in Charleston.

Service is awful! I had NO server! We ended up sitting at the sushi bar...thank goodness... Because we had no server! The sushi chef took our dinner order and we had to go to the bar for our own drinks. Finally, the bartender so graciously started accommodating us but it was not until the end of the meal. I honestly did not know who to tip. This is such a disappointing restaurant because it has great food and a wonderful atmosphere but I can get sushi elsewhere just as good without having to serve myself!

Creative rolls. Great service. Great drinks. Busy as can be on Mondays! They do 1/2 off rolls on Mondays (no pick-up!) But it is worth the wait!

Sushi was delicious! Trivia night made it a fun, relaxed atmosphere to hang out and not feel like you're at a fancy restaurant. Only concern was when first walking in it smelled like the cleaners they used at old-folks center and they had carpet. If you can look past it, which I quickly did, it's a great place!
